You can see some white material on the rear floorboards. This is oxysolv from the Eastwood Company. It dissolves the rust and leaves a rust resistant coating. I wasn’t really happy with the results. It did remove the rust but this used to be metal and probably weekend the floor. I think this product is good for inside fender wells etc. I have seen lots of people use Por-15 this actually paints over the rust and re-enforces the floorboard. I decided this would be the best way to go. So I ordered a quart of Eastwood’s version of Por-15. I will prep the floor with oxysolv then paint over it with the sealer. This will ensure no more rust will continue.
I also pulled down the gas tank due to a bad sending unit. The bolts were stripped on the way out due to age. I had to cut them off. I finally got the tank down. Here is a before picture of the tank. I will sand blast it next week and repaint it and put a new sending unit in. I will also be buying new gas tank straps. Also you can see the bumper and frame needs some work.

Santa was good to me this year and got me a 70 Monte carlo!! I actually found this parked in an outside carport from a local guy in Garland, TX.
He had parked it since 1985 and never drove it since. I bought it for 700 dollars. It has a lot less rust than my 71. All the chrome and bumpers are straight. The body is also in great condition except for the right front.
Real problem was he left the window down in the car and Dogs and Rats were living in it!! Just getting in the car made me sick. Why did I buy it? Well is has a 12 bolt rear end a 400 Trans and a decent 350. I was told since it had the beefy rear end and trans it might have been a big block car. I have yet to find a build sheet and the Vin and body numbers don’t tell me much. I will need to do some more research. This car also has the fiber optics on the fenders and rear package tray (I will be selling those). The car only needs the front right fender, headlamp housing and chrome trim and rear package tray sheet metal replaced (only place that I found rust). The last owner gave me the whole right side of another car to replace the damage parts on this one…) It will be cheaper to fix this car than my 71. Not sure what I am going to do with the 71. My wife states I can’t keep both!! I guess I will strip the 71 of all the parts and sell as a rebuild-able race car. Here are some pics of the car. First thing I had to do with gloves on was to remove all the interior and seats.
After removing all the carpet and floor Jute, I found that the floorboards were in excellent condition still had the factory paint and no rust there. The trunk showed a little surface rust. I ordered some rust encapsulator from the Eastwood company to halt the rust..)
